🎶 Smile – Walt Pitts Cover (Solo Guitar & Vocals Performance)

In this video, I’m performing “Smile”, a song with music originally composed by Charlie Chaplin for his 1936 film Modern Times. Chaplin composed the theme inspired by Puccini’s Tosca, and in 1954, John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title. I’ve taken a more upbeat approach to the song, giving it a fun energy while keeping the original’s emotional depth intact. The chord changes are some of my favorites to improvise over, and I love putting my personal spin on it.
This live music performance was recorded at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the Cochise / Geronimo Clubhouse restaurant on August 3, 2019. I’ve been performing for the Desert Mountain community since 2002, and it’s always a privilege to entertain such a great crowd.

I used the loop feature in the VE-8 to create a loop of the verse and chorus chord changes, which gave me the foundation to solo over.
